“Revenge” Ratings Climb, “X Factor” Dips Slightly for Top 12 Performances

“Revenge” has been a welcome addition to ABC’s schedule, filling a Wednesday at 10PM hour that has been a source of pain in recent seasons.

Still, it has performed more like a solid utility player than a hit, and with a drama containing serialized elements, there is always fear about recruiting new viewers.

“Revenge,” however, pleasantly surprised with an uptick Wednesday, moving to a solid 3.0 adults 18-49 rating with 8.6 million viewers. That marks its best performance since the premiere and a very good sign that the show, while not a massive hit, is clicking with its audience.

Earlier in the night, “The Middle” and “Suburgatory” were down but still solid at 2.9/9.4 million and 3.1/8.5 million, respectively. “Modern Family” remained television’s top scripted series with a 5.6 and 13.3 million, and it built into a solidly-rated “Happy Endings” (3.5, 7.9 million).

FOX, however, still won the night courtesy a two-hour “The X Factor,” which scored a 3.9 adults 18-49 rating for its Top 12 performance show (given how the show has trended recently, expect an uptick of 0.1 or 0.2 in the finals to another 4+ rating). Viewership clocked at 11.5 million.

The show’s very slight dip from last week’s number is certainly no cause for concern (even powerhouse “American Idol” tends to drop as the season goes on), but it again proves that no matter how talented the contestants, the show is unlikely to make significant ratings GROWTH as a result of the buzz.
