CM Punk Returns to WWE RAW, Brings Back Music from Ring of Honor

Not content to let the CM Punk storyline play out entirely off television, WWE brought CM Punk out for a staredown with John Cena on Monday Night RAW.

As the show reached its final moments, Cena, who had just defeated Rey Mysterio to become the “new” WWE Champion, celebrated the victory. Suddenly, Living Colour’s “Cult of Personality” played on the speakers.

The fans did not really know how to react, but many wrestling fans recognize the song from Punk’s “Ring of Honor” days. Punk, who previously came out to AFI’s “Miseria Cantare” in Ring of Honor, switched to the Living Colour song during his final run as a heel in the promotion.

Outside of wrestling, the song had a renewed life as a featured track in the popular Guitar Hero III video game.

Eventually, Punk came out and went eye-to-eye with Cena in the ring. As Cena lifted his belt to garner a crowd reaction, so too did Punk, and the staredown between champions closed the show.

The angle should lead to a title vs. title match at Summerslam, so WWE is not wasting any time capitalizing on the buzz for CM Punk.
