UFC Main-Event Canceled Due to Injury, Replacement Expected

MMAFighting is reporting that Phil Davis suffered an injury in training, meaning that his scheduled UFC 133 main-event with Rashad Evans is off.

Evans, however, will remain on the card, and the identity of the replacement for Davis, who suffered a knee injury, should be made clear very soon.

Originally scheduled to fight Jon Jones for the UFC Light Heavyweight Championship, Evans ended up opposite Davis when Jones pulled out due to an injury. As the number one contender for the title, Evans had remained out of action since May 2010 in order to preserve his shot, but with the initial uncertainty around Jones’ status, the feeling was that Evans simply could not remain out of action any longer and had to take a fight. And thus entered Phil Davis.

UFC 133 takes place on August 6.
