FOX’s “Glee” Drops Character Ahead of Season Three

Reports Friday confirmed that FOX’s “Glee” will not feature Chord Overstreet (Sam) as a series regular when it returns for its third season this fall.

Producers opted not to pickup the option on Overstreet, who first joined the cast last year. He was not a fan favorite for the bulk of his run, although some have voiced disappointment that the continuation of his character’s storyline with Amber Riley’s Mercedes will likely be quite shallow.

Overstreet might still appear in some guest spots next season.

The reports, meanwhile, reiterated that Darren Criss (Blaine) will be a series regular in season three. Harry Shum, Jr. (Mike Chang) has also finally been bumped up to regular.
