Jon Olav Einemo Returns Against Dave Herman; UFC 131 Results

After nearly five years away from MMA, Jon Olav Einemo was scheduled to make his UFC 131 return against Shane Carwin. When the main-event shakeup resulted in Carwin moving to a fight with Junior dos Santos, that return matchup was changed to a war with Dave Herman.

Herman might not be a former UFC interim champion, but will he have enough to upset Einemo’s return to mixed martial arts? Or, will Einemo show that he was ready for whatever challenge landed in front of him.

The result follows:

Dave Herman b. Jon Olav Einemo via TKO (strikes) at 3:19 of Round Two
*Story of the Fight: Though no one claimed a major advantage in the first round, things seemed to be falling in Einemo’s favor. Herman connected with the occasional knee, but the most significant moment of the fight was a takedown and advance to side control for Einemo. Herman, to his credit, avoided damage and got back to his feet relatively quickly.

Einemo, surprisingly, seemed to be getting the better of the stand-up in round two, but a smile on Herman’s face made it hard to tell exactly how hurt he was getting. Following a referee stoppage to re-insert Herman’s misplaced mouthpiece, however, the smiles took a backseat to aggression as Herman punished Einemo with strikes and eventually build to a TKO stoppage.
