Snoop Dogg Reportedly Pitching Hip-Hop Version of “American Idol”

The crowded marketplace for music competition series could be getting more crowded, per a report from the New York Post that Snoop Dogg is pitching a hip-hop version of “American Idol.”

The buy-in from television executives has not been immediate, reports say, but MTV and E! have apparently shown some preliminary interest.

NY Post sources say Snoop wants to get get mainstream hip hop names involved, with Jay-Z as the ultimate pull. Reps for Jay-Z, however, have denied his involvement.

One name that could be involved, meanwhile, is Wiz Khalifa, who would likely appear as either a judge or mentor should the show move forward.
