Scotty McCreery Tops Lauren Alaina to Win “American Idol” Season Ten

Despite receiving a standing ovation from judge Randy Jackson and a consensus critical opinion that she “won” Tuesday’s final “American Idol” performance show, Lauren Alaina was unable to stop the show’s male-winning streak.

Scotty McCreery, therefore, became the fourth consecutive male to win the “American Idol” crown. The teenage country singer had come across as a frontrunner since the very beginning, delivering performances that were perfectly-suited for his country and young female audiences even when not remarkable from a vocal standpoint. He never delivered that quintessential “Idol moment,” but he also never strayed from what made him an early standout this season.

FOX reported that 122 million votes were cast this season, which sets the all-time voting record. Of note is the fact that online voting was not in play for previous seasons.
