WWE’s Kharma Storyline Scores Early Success, Fuels Interest in WWE Divas

It is far too soon to call the introduction of Kharma, formerly Awesome Kong, as a successful WWE endeavor, but the early response from fans is looking promising.

In a rare trend for an episode of WWE RAW, this week’s Divas match between Kelly Kelly and Brie Bella, which featured the latest Kharma assault, sparked a viewership increase of 333,000 for its quarter hour, the Observer reports. While strong quarters used to be the norm for TNA’s Knockouts Division, they have not recently occurred in conjunction with WWE’s Divas segments. The increase definitely suggests that fans, at least as of right now, are seeing the Kharma storyline as a breath of fresh air that makes the Divas segments more than mere “filler.”

The only segment to generate more of a viewership improvement was the overrun, which saw 540,000 additional viewers tune in for John Cena vs. Jack Swagger and the fallout with The Miz.

In fact, save for that segment and the match with Alberto Del Rio and Rey Mysterio, the Divas segment was the most-watched portion of this week’s RAW.
