FOX Bumps Back “House” for “Terra Nova,” Swaps “American Dad” for “Cleveland”

FOX officially confirmed its 2011-12 schedule Monday morning, delivering few surprises as it scheduling format mirrors that of season’s past.

That is not to say there were no changes–notably, FOX will be leading off its Mondays with “Terra Nova” in the 8PM slot. “House,” which has claimed the 8PM slot as its own for the past few years, will move to 9PM.

Though opening with a new series and launching into a proven series is not the most conventional of moves, it might make sense. “House,” even when far stronger in the adults 18-49 demo than it has been this spring, has never really launched a series; its lead-out has simply not seemed convertable enough to turn the 9PM show into a major hit.

FOX’s block will otherwise remain as it is this fall, with “The X-Factor” moving into “American Idol”‘s current Wednesday-Thursday format rather than its previous, long-running Tuesday-Wednesday format. “Glee” will still anchor Tuesday, building into new comedy “New Girl” and returning series “Raising Hope.”

“I Hate My Teenage Daughter” will get the “X-Factor” lead-in on Wednesdays, while “Bones” stays in that slot on Thursdays.

“Kitchen Nightmares” and “Fringe” air on Fridays, while FOX will air “Cops” and specials of “America’s Most Wanted” on Saturday nights.

Sundays will adhere to the Animation Domination format, although the actual scheduling will change a bit. “The Cleveland Show” will now air its originals at 7:30PM, building into 8PM staple “The Simpsons” and new comedy “Allen Gregory.” “Family Guy” stays put at 9PM, while “American Dad” moves back to the 9:30 slot.

New series “Alcatraz,” “The Finder” and “Napoleon Dynamite” are slated for midseason. “Bob’s Burgers” and “American Idol” also return at that point.

Though not formally added to the schedule yet, new comedies “Family Album” and “Little in Common” are still “in development” for midseason bows. “Touch,” the anticipated new Kiefer Sutherland drama, will also land on the midseason roster.
