“Desperate Housewives” Ratings Disappoint, “Body of Proof” Falls

Another episode with competition from an awards show, another disappointing performance for aging ABC veteran “Desperate Housewives.”

Up against the Academy of Country Music Awards on CBS, “Housewives” fell below the 9 million-viewer threshold with an average audience of 8.83 million. Its adults 18-49 demo performance of 2.8 was also disappointing.

“Housewives” struggled against the ACMs last year as well, posting a season-low 3.3 rating with 10.62 million viewers, but this rating is visibly worse.

And, regardless of how much of a direct impact the awards made, the end result is that the ABC soap again saw any chance of building momentum stifled by a competing network’s awards show or special.

Assuming the data holds, this will be “Housewives”‘s worst viewership performance of the season and worst demo since February 13, 2011, when the show went against the far-stronger Grammy Awards on CBS.

With “Housewives” failing to equal “Dancing with the Stars” in the lead-in department, “Body of Proof” dropped to a 2.0 with 8.44 million viewers at 10PM.

  1. Vanessa Willams is the reason the ratings have dropped. Her character is mean and nasty and not in an entertaining way. Get rid of her, and the ratings will rebound.

  2. People are tired of DH, apparently. Not surprised!

And I’m also not surprised Body of Proof is bombing… the main character is cliche, and who really believes a coroner runs around town questioning murder suspects? Bad writing.
