“Glee” Original Songs “Loser Like Me,” “Get it Right” Erupt After Episode

On the same day that album sales reports for the fifth volume of “Glee: The Music” revealed a weakened interest in the show’s soundtrack–the album sold less than 100,000 first week copies–comes redemption in the form of smash single success for the show’s “Original Song” episode.

The annual trip to regionals, “Original Song” featured a laundry list of musical recordings, including several songs originally-performed by the “Glee” cast.

Two of them, performed in the actual competition portion of the episode, have surged right to the top of iTunes–“Loser Like Me” is already number one on the single sales chart, while “Get it Right” sits at number three.

And, with sales for the album versions of these tracks also performing well, they seem set to make a nice splash on next week’s Billboard Hot 100.

Darren Criss, meanwhile, continues to score in covering contemporary pop hits. Criss’ character’s take on P!nk’s “Raise Your Glass,” performed with the Dalton Academy Warblers group on the show, is number four on that chart. His version of Maroon 5’s “Misery” is number nine.

His character’s new storyline boyfriend, meanwhile, again found success covering The Beatles. Kurt’s (Chris Colfer’s) take on “Blackbird” sits at number six, following in the success of his haunting “I Want to Hold Your Hand” from earlier in the season.

Criss and Colfer also collaborated on Hey Monday’s fan-favorite ballad “Candles,” which sits at number eighteen, behind number thirteen for the Amber Riley-led original track “Hell to the No.”
