“The Event” Ratings Slip to Scary Low, “Mad Love” Also Down

Many assumed NBC might give “The Event” the benefit of the doubt given its high-profile early season promotion and the weak ratings standards for the network, but it now appears almost certain that the series will be canceled.

Monday’s episode dropped to a series low 1.2 adults 18-49 rating with just 4.19 million viewers. And though it dealt with the season finale of “The Bachelor” (4.9 adults 18-49 rating from 9-10PM), it also benefited from re-runs of CBS’ Monday comedy hour.

The show has also fallen drastically from the fall, when it would deal with originals of ABC’s “Dancing with the Stars” (nearly on par with “The Bachelor”), new episodes of “Two and a Half Men” and “Mike & Molly” and Monday Night Football. So, the “tough competition” argument really cannot fly.

Also hit hard Monday was CBS’ “Mad Love,” which dropped to a 2.1 rating and 6.51 million viewers. The only CBS original of the night, the show had limited lead-in support (a re-run of “How I Met Your Mother” only garnered a 1.9) and likely had more crossover with “The Bachelor” (4.1 rating in the slot) than “The Event.”

Still, for a CBS comedy, a 2.1 is far from a passable figure.
