Gervais Wants “Arrested Development” Star to Join “The Office”

Indications remain that Ricky Gervais will not reprise his character David Brent to replace Steve Carell’s departing Michael Scott, but as an executive producer of NBC’s import of “The Office,” he could still have an involvement in rebuilding the cast.

And, according to the controversial comedian, he is behind bringing in “Arrested Development” alumnus Will Arnett as a new series regular.

“Had a little meeting with NBC about various things and recommended Will Arnett for a regular in The Office,” wrote Gervais on his blog. “Thoughts? I think he’s amazing.”

Prior to the launch of the current seventh season, it was reported that the show would be considering introducing multiple new characters–not all would be in the mix to replace the departing Michael.
