“The Office” Introduces Michael Scott to Ricky Gervais’ David Brent

NBC’s adaptation of “The Office” finally delivered on the long-awaited interaction between Ricky Gervais’ David Brent and Steve Carell’s Michael Scott.

The encounter, about which word leaked earlier this month, served as the cold opening for Thursday’s episode.

Brent, the Slough general manager of Wernham-Hogg, served as the boss and lead character of the original UK version of “The Office.” The American version introduced Michael Scott as Brent’s counterpart in the Scranton branch of Dunder Mifflin, and although Gervais’ character certainly represents the true ground-breaker, the longevity of the American “Office” has turned Carell’s Scott into an icon in its own right.
