Crystal Bowersox’s Album Sales Could Top “American Idol” Winner Lee DeWyze

This will not be another case of runners up Clay Aiken and Adam Lambert or fourth place finisher Chris Daughtry, but based on early estimates, “American Idol”‘s latest runner-up Crystal Bowersox has a chance of topping winner Lee DeWyze’s opening week sales mark.

Based on one day sales data at Hits Daily Double, Bowersox’s “Farmer’s Daughter” is on track for an opening frame figure of 45-50,000 sales. If that projection holds, her album’s opening sales will narrowly top those of Lee DeWyze’s “Live it Up.” That album opened to 39,000 copies this fall.

Regardless of who wins the race, it is clear that appearing on “American Idol” no longer guarantees a monster opening sales weeks. The combined opening week total for DeWyze and Bowersox will rank significantly below the total for any prior “Idol” pairing.

  1. Crystal is a rare talent. Her voice is soothing and healing to me. Time will further perfect her talents and I believe she’ll be around for a long time. Huge industry names seem to have taken a liking to her music. Give her some time and I’m sure her songwriting skills will get better but not sure you can top that voice!

  2. I have a feeling Crystal’s fame will far outlast that of Dewyze or Lambert or even Aiken. She is true talent and doesnt need the affects of some of the artist of today. She is also real and unique which is a breath of fresh air today.

  3. I am so looking forward to getting Crystal’s album. Can you all just get over who’s sales are bigger and who (in their opinion) is talented or not. None of you could sell 1 album, so have a little respect for their work. Is there ANYPLACE on this planet where people aren’t fighting over some silly thing or another. Or think’s their opinion must be known. Can’t you just say what you like and shut up about what you don’t?

  4. to me, lee is generic. i loved crystal’s voice and delivery, and i will most definitely buy her albums.

  5. Crystal will go on to have a wonderful career as a singer and a Fantastic career as a songwriter in the mirrors of Bobby Goldsboro and Mac Davis.. She maynot have the world on her tails yet but the wind will be blowing towards more and more as she is discovered.. A rare combination of passion and talent, folk, country, alternative and instumental, a real rare breed!

  6. Well, Betty, “Aiken” has been around for going on eight years, “Lambert” seems to be doing quite well, “Dewyze” is fresh out of the gate – so here’s to hoping that Crystal will, indeed, have much hoped for success.

One singers success does not diminish that of another so, as others have said, I see no reason to belittle the success that others have achieved.

  7. I think Crystal is undeniably talented. She has a great voice and is a great performer too, has a great presense on stage, can command large audiences. Having said that, emotionally her delivery does not move me, she is not emotionally available, there is a wall there. Lee on the other hand is all out there, completely accessible, and when he sings whatever he sings you know he really means it. That for me is the crucial difference between the two. Needless to say, I am a Lee fan for life.

  8. This debut CD is a very start for Crystal. I liked it a lot, but I just know she can do a whole lot better working with the right people. I still loved the CD.
Hey, let’s not compare Lee Dewyze and Crystal. I like them both. I wish both long and sucessful music careers.
    GO CRYSTAL GO!

  9. The negative comments are fascinating… I do want to address the emotional availability of Crystals performances. Every song she writes or sings is connected to her very emotional past. When Crystal sings these songs you do feel the passion and connectivity. Her genre may be the biggest hurdle however, this fusion of Country,Blues, Folk and Rock may put of those who do not like one or another. but vocally and emotionally Crystal does potentially represent one of the strongest rising stars of our time. Time will tell.

  10. I just ordered Crystal’s album…it’s all I wanted this holiday season! Not only is she an amazing singer, but she’s also an awesome songwriter. Crystal is naturally attractive, down to earth, and low key. I can see how that might put people off, in this age of Glamberts and Gagas. But personally, I rather like her low key vibe. I really get the feeling she’s one of those artist you may not see on every award show, but is out there making great music decade after decade. You guys know the people I mean. You may not hear them on radio that often, but you buy their music because they are brilliant artists. That’s Crystal!

  11. Some artists can hide behind their music and achieve success without giving much of themselves away in the process. Crystal Bowersox seems to be precisely the opposite. It’s not just, “Take it or leave it;” it feels more like, “Take me or leave me,” even down to the several times she sought to defend her styling of a particular song in response to Idol judges’ disapproval.

Hers is not my preference in music, but she seems more the real deal than many. Her debut album sets a standard for risk-taking fresh out the gate, and, again, it’s like Crystal is saying, “Take me or leave me.”

My suspicion is that our response matters to her more than her past will allow her to show it.

  12. i love crystal’s voice and that she isn’t into all the gaga crap ordered 5 of her cd’s all my friends wanted them for xmas

  13. 45,000 to 50,000 with no radio play,no commercials just word of mouth, plus going up against MJ,I see a very bright future for the once busking singer.and yes she is ver pretty and a great personality.met her many times.even had a water balloon fight before her show in Sacramento.

  14. I loved her from the beginning on American Idol. This girl has so much to offer. Everything that she does is 100% real. One of the hardest things that Cyrstal will be faced with is if somebody ask her to act. She has a major problem with trying to be something she isn’t. And that why we will love her forever! The world is filled with fake “this isn’t who I’m really am” kinda stars and singers. Thats why we will love this girl for many years to come. She truly is who she is. Her music will always reflect that in some way. A way that will always touch our hearts.

  16. I got my Christmas present early, the only thing I asked for, Farmer’s Daughter and it’s everything I expected and more!! I was “crystallized” the first time I heard her sing and this album confirms that she is a star in the making! Love, love, love this girl!

  17. Anne1075, let me guess, you didn’t make it when you tried out for American Idol…pretty sad to be hating on someone you don’t know, and who is VERY talented! If you don’t like that genre, that’s fine, but don’t trash talk.

  18. all you people talkin trash about Crystal need to get off your fatasses and find something else to do!! shes a beautiful person and she’s not trash!! and she has a beautiful voice and if none of you can see that there is something wrong!! keep your negative comments to yourself and you iff you have nothing nice to say shut your mouth!!! didn’t your mom tech you that!!!!

  19. I am thrilled for Crystal’s success. Love her music, and her personality. I wish her well, she has something speciial. I am a 60+ Grandma and happy to be part of her large fan base.
