“The Sing Off” Ratings Surge, “Two and a Half Men” Rebounds

After a solid start last week, NBC’s “The Sing Off” saw a big second week improvement, with Monday’s episode rising to a strong 3.3 adults 18-49 rating.

The second-year show, which has been generating favorable buzz, scored a 3.2 for hour one and a 3.4 for hour two. Though behind CBS’ comedy block in both hours, the show easily dominated ABC’s offerings.

The viewership average was a healthy 9.43 million.

Leader CBS, meanwhile, saw its lineup rebound from last week’s unexpected ratings disappointment. “How I Met Your Mother” rose to a 3.7 with a strong 10.10 million viewers, providing ample lead-in support for “Rules of Engagement” (3.3 rating, 10.08 million viewers). At 9PM, flagship “Two and a Half Men” was back to form with a 4.4 and 14.39 million viewers, helping “Mike & Molly” rebound to a 3.7 and 12.49 million.

“Hawaii Five-0” closed the night with a 2.9 and 11.13 million.

(CBS received the Baltimore pre-emption for last night’s Ravens vs. Texans game, although that should not make too significant an impact on the demographic numbers.)

With FOX’s lineup in re-runs and impacted by the Minneapolis and New York airings of the Vikings-Giants game and The CW in re-runs, ABC was the only organic competitor. It flopped with a 0.8 and 3.77 million viewers for its dud “Skating with the Stars,” while the Mariah Carey “Merry Christmas to You” special scored a 1.1 and 4.89 million viewers, effectively falling into the same range that the Taylor Swift and Beyonce specials did on Thanksgiving.
