News on Big WWE Wrestlers Returning For This Year’s WrestleMania

According to the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, of the marquee pro wrestling names who have been identified in rumors about big WrestleMania returns, none has come within striking distance of a finalized WWE deal.

Names like Chris Jericho and Batista, both of whom recently departed WWE under a prevailing notion that they would eventually be back, do not appear to be on the cusp of making returns. In Batista’s case, the feeling is that he will join Strikeforce after finishing his current movie commitments and thus not make a WrestleMania 27 appearance a priority.

Jericho, meanwhile, has simply given no indication that he would want to return to the ring so soon.

Other names that have come up include Bill Goldberg and UFC standout Brock Lesnar. Goldberg’s talks with WWE have been described as “cold,” while few, outside of Vince McMahon, are optimism that a deal can be made to bring former UFC Champion Brock Lesnar back to the squared circle.

  2. At one time I would be excited by the possible return of Lesnar and/or Goldberg. But to be perfectly honest, the way things are in the WWE right now…it would nothing for these guys. They were superstars of the company when it was actually worth watching. Right now it’s too much of a children’s circus act with John Cena as the head clown (no disrespect to John Cena the person, just his current gimmick). Goldberg and Lesnar were both ground-pound action powerhouses. Lesnar is perfectly fine in UFC…where he’s fighting for real and has made great success there. As for Goldberg, he’s better in TNA with his former WCW boss Eric Bischoff, someone he’s clearly worked well with in the past. Batista and Jericho made smart decisions leaving. Batista claimed himself that he didn’t like the direction the company was headed in…I couldn’t agree more…great call by Batista.
