“Faster” Starts Weak at Box Office, “Tangled,” “Potter” Dominate, “Burlesque” Soft

“Faster,” Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson’s return to action flicks, certainly did not get off to a quick start at the box office.

The film grossed a mere $1.6 million in its Wednesday opening, only enough for a seventh place finish. While the day was not particularly conducive to non-family films, the opening, behind several new and holdover releases, still left much to be desired. Deadline is estimating a five-day holiday total of less than $10 million.

At the top of the spectrum was “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows,” which added $14.4 million to its take. New opener “Tangled” started with $11.6 million, crushing the $2.8 million take for fellow newcomer “Burlesque.”

“Love and Other Drugs” garnered $2.1 million, landing behind the $2.6 million for holdover “Megamind 3D.”
