“Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows” Opens Big at Midnight Box Office

Part one of “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows” got off to a strong start at the box office, opening to the tune of $24 million for its midnight showings.

With the studio and industry analysts still hopeful of an opening weekend performance of at least $130 million, the midnight performance will not dissuade any optimism. “The Twilight Saga: New Moon,” which grossed $143 million in its bow last November, started only slightly higher with $26 million for its midnight engagements.

According to Deadline, insiders feel the film is in position for a full first day total in the realm of $60 million.
