“The Middle”‘s Ratings Success Continues, “Modern Family” Still on Top

Having spent most of its first season just barely above “bubble” status in its first season, ABC’s “The Middle” is showing continued signs of becoming a strong part of ABC’s weekly schedule.

Wednesday’s episode posted a solid 2.9 adults 18-49 rating with an impressive viewership count of 9.544 million. Though essentially on par with last week’s airing, Wednesday’s broadcast deserves additional credit for achieving the strong rating without a boost from a Halloween-themed episode.

“The Middle”‘s performance also spurred an increase for lead-out “Better With You,” which was able to match the prior week’s 2.5 rating with an improved 7.733 million.

ABC’s other comedy performers included “Modern Family,” which easily won the night despite slipping slightly to a 4.8 rating with 12.241 million viewers. “Cougar Town” followed with, given its lead-in, a lackluster 3.0 rating and 7.427 million viewers.
