Though “Saw 3D”‘s box office performance will not take the franchise to new heights, what has been billed as the final “Saw” film has improved upon the performance of its predecessor.

The latest release garnered $10.7 million at the box office Friday en route to an easy victory. On pace for a finish in the mid-$20 millions, the 3D version of the film improves up on the $7.0 million earned in the first day of release for “Saw VI.”

That film, which hit theaters last year in the weekend prior to Halloween, was also hit hard by “Paranormal Activity.” All the rage at the time, the acclaimed film siphoned a great deal of horror fans from the October staple.

This year, after opening impressively, “Paranormal Activity” will settle into second place for its head-to-head showdown with “Saw.” The film earned $5.8 million Friday.

“Red” landed at third with $3.4 million, “Jackass 3D” was good for $3.1 million and “Hereafter” earned $2.1 million on Friday.
