James Cameron Confirms “Avatar 2” and “Avatar 3”

James Cameron confirmed Wednesday that he will return to direct two sequels to “Avatar,” his groundbreaking 2009 film that became the highest-grossing movie of all time.

The two sequels will not release until December 2014 and 2015, respectively, which will likely put them out of the way of Peter Jackson’s anticipated “Hobbit” films.

Production on the first sequel is eyed for a 2011 start date. No official title has been given.
