Neil Patrick Harris Scores Gig as Director; Emma Roberts to Star in Film

“How I Met Your Mother” star and “Glee” Emmy-winner Neil Patrick Harris has booked his directorial debut, The Hollywood Reporter confirms.

NPH will direct the indie romantic comedy “Aaron and Sarah.” Starring Josh Hutcherson and Emma Roberts, the Chad Gomez Creasey and Dara Resnik Creasey script focuses on a nerdy guy and popular girl who become friends as high school freshmen and witness their relationship evolve in the four years to graduation.

The spec script, which was originally titled “BFF,” was first purchased by Rogue Pictures several years ago. At different points since its purchase, directors David O. Russell and Joe Nussbaum had also been attached to the project. The helmer’s chair now belongs to NPH.
