“The Event” Ratings Fall Again, “Chase,” “Chuck” Also Weak

Although “The Event” slowed the pace of its descent into ratings misery Monday, it still suffered another decline for its fourth episode.

NBC’s serialized-drama fell to a 2.2 adults 18-49 rating with 6.45 million viewers. While that performance does not register as horrible within the context of NBC, it represents a drop of almost 40% from the show’s September 20 premiere performance.

Given the hefty sports competition from the Jets-Vikings game and the MLB Playoffs, the drop might not reflect a true loss of interest from last week. Regardless, the show is still going to have to stabilize, and quickly, in order to demonstrate its viability beyond a single season.

The show nonetheless remains the high point of NBC’s Monday schedule. “Chuck” posted a 1.9 with 5.35 million viewers at 8PM, while new series “Chase” dipped to a 1.5 with 5.10 million at 10PM.

  1. I think the reason the Events ratings are plummeting is because they made “the event” about aliens. While I like the show, I don’t think it was wise of NBC to reveal they were aliens in the second episode. Most people find shows about aliens odd.

  2. ummm…no. i think the event is plummeting because the writing sucks. they may have good mystery and potentially a good mythology, but the writing is baaaaad. so it a lot of the acting. and the character development. and stop using “things” from Lost. why imitate a failure?

  3. i LOVE “the event” and really think it’s picking up speed. everyone i know says they’re really starting to get hooked. i hope NBC doesn’t cancel it. if they do, what will SMART people watch? “dancing with the stars?” no thank you.

  4. I have to agree with Meme. There are more people interested in ‘Aliens’ now than ever before in history–that’s not the problem at all. It’s the writing, the over-rationing of plot details and the God-Blasted constant flashbacks that have made the 4th episode the very last for me.
If they could actually back-up the very vague info here and little bit of info there with a really cool reveal of unfolding plot each episode, this thing just ‘might’ float, but since they’re doing absolutely ‘nothing’ new, continuing where ‘Lost’ left-off with very little info each episode just to keep you wanting more and going nowhere even interesting with the story line, this over-blown series is ‘Dead-in-the-water.’ Sorry NBC. Try again.

  5. Lost was a great show with millions of loyal fans. Thousands of dedicated fansites and podcasts. People are still talking about it. The Event is bad! There is no comparison except maybe in genre. Just because you don’t like either show doesn’t make them similar. I don’t like baseball and I don’t like opera. Does that make them the same?
