The Rock Says He Would Have Done MMA, Talks WWE Return

A self-identified “big fan” of UFC, Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson confirmed that he would have entered the world of mixed martial arts had it been as popular as it currently is when he made the call to go into professional wrestling.

Former WWF wrestler turned actor The Rock aka Dwayne Johnson enjoys his time on the set of The Fast and the Furious 5 in Puerto Rico with co-star Elsa Pataky on July 29, 2010 where the pair play law officials cracking down on the antics of Vin Diesel and Paul Walker. Fame Pictures, Inc

Speaking to MMAFighting’s Ariel Helwani, Rock confirmed, “Oh man, there’s no question about it. I love this sport and…competing in the Octagon, is something I would have loved to have done.”

He also joked that he’s “too handsome” for cage fighting and instead “had to go to Hollywood.”

Turning back to pro wrestling, Rock added that he did not feel the rise of mixed martial arts has hurt wrestling and, in fact, feels that the “explosion” of MMA has been valuable in terms of getting the different fighting styles over.

As for a potential full-time return to WWE, “No, I don’t see that, man. I accomplished everything that I wanted to accomplish in the business. Brock Lesnar was the last guy I wanted to wrestle, [and] I had the privilege of wrestling him all around the world.”
