Report: Taylor Swift to Sing about Kanye West Incident at MTV VMAs

It looks like anyone who thought Taylor Swift’s absence of a response to Kanye West’s lengthy Twitter stream about their 2009 MTV VMAs encounter meant she was past the issue could let go of that notion.

The Associated Press reports that Swift has written a song about the incident and will perform it during the 2010 MTV Video Music Awards ceremony on Sunday.

During the 2009 awards ceremony, Kanye West interrupted Swift’s acceptance speech for Best Female Video with a rant about how Beyonce’s “Single Ladies” was one of the best videos of all time and implicitly more deserving of the Moon Man trophy. A stunned Swift had no immediate response, although the incident turned Swift into a media darling and further cemented her prominence as one of pop music’s biggest acts.

Following last year’s awards show, Swift made media rounds and even lightly referenced the encounter during her “Saturday Night Live” hosting monologue, but she has since cooled off in referring to West’s interruption.

Nonetheless, it had appeared a given, essentially since the moment the interruption happened last year, that West and Swift would be paired for some sort of comedy segment at the 2010 awards. That speculation heated up last week, when West posted a lengthy series of Twitter updates that included an apology to Swift and mention of the fact that he had written a song he hopes she will perform.

And that is in addition to the fact that both are promoting new music from albums that will drop this coming fall.

With West and Swift both expected to be there and apparently in possession of their own unique songs related to the incident, speculation is centered on the degree to which they will interact during Sunday’s MTV telecast.
