“Sex and the City 2” Box Office Starts Strong

While an apples-to-apples comparison to the original is impossible given the Thursday opening, “Sex and the City 2” looks to be on track for a big weekend.

According to very preliminary data from Deadline, the sequel earned $14.3 million in box office receipts Thursday, $3 million of which came from the midnight showing (ahead of $2.5 million for the original’s night-time bow).

Despite the abysmal reviews, the film now appears on track for a total of more than $70 million by the time Monday’s Memorial Day receipts are tallied.
