“American Idol” Eliminates Another, Reveals Final Two

The wait is over–the final two contestants on this year’s “American Idol” have been revealed.

Even when the season itself seems a bit soft, the idea of two pop music hopefuls vying head-to-head is always appealing for viewers. It should be no different this year, as two fan favorites are booked to collide in what could very easily be a tightly-contested finale.

But before announcing the final two, Ryan Seacrest was forced to let one contestant go. Predictably, he announced that Casey James was removed from the competition after lukewarm renditions of “OK, It’s Alright with Me” and “Daughters.” In reaching the top three, Casey nonetheless defied the odds and outlasted some very highly-touted contestants (including Michael Lynche, Aaron Kelly and Didi Benami).

With Casey out, left standing are Lee DeWyze and Crystal Bowersox. The battle should be one of the most interesting in the show’s history, as it combines a frontrunner who has been on the perpetual fall this season in Crystal with an underexposed dark horse-turned-fan and judge darling in Lee (essentially someone on the way down meeting someone on the way up). Will Lee’s upward momentum be enough to score a victory over Crystal? Or, will the show’s obvious frontrunner prove once again that it is possible to predict the eventual “American Idol” as early as the audition and Hollywood episodes.
