“American Idol” Eliminates One-Time Frontrunner on Results Show

Every season of “American Idol” brings some bizarre twists and turns, and this week’s elimination absolutely fits that categorization.

By no means was the elimination ‘undeserved,’ nor was it a ‘screwjob,’ nor a total shocker. But it was interesting given how the season has played out thus far.

Following one of the strongest nights of the season–one in which no one was bad, and the worst performers were frontrunners Crystal Bowersox and Lee DeWyze–the result was inevitably going to be somewhat surprising. How do you decide who goes home on a night in which everyone was good?

America ultimately was forced to decide, however, and it opted to provide one-time frontrunner Siobhan Magnus with the lowest number of votes. The oddball diva was finally forced to say goodbye to the competition, and her elimination leaves only five remaining in the competition.

Siobhan’s elimination made sense–she was not as good as Michael Lynche and Casey James Tuesday night, she has not been as consistent as Crystal and Lee, and she does not have the wholesome appeal of Aaron Kelly. What makes less sense, however, was that she got eliminated on a night in which the judges provided rave reviews and yet did not even land in the bottom three on nights in which she was torn apart by the panel.

But as the pool dwindles, such eliminations are inevitable. America HAS to choose its favorite, and some popular contestants are going to be left behind.

Just as interesting as Siobhan’s elimination is the fact that Casey joined her in the bottom two and Michael joined her in the bottom three. Both represented the night’s strongest performers Tuesday.
