“American Idol” Results Show Eliminates Two Contestants

Because Michael “Big Mike” Lynche was saved by the judges last week, this week’s results show was to be especially heartbreaking. Following a night of Elvis covers, two of the nine remaining contestants were to be shipped home with no possibility of a judges’ revival.

With two eliminations scheduled, the odds of a shocker were greatly increased. Would the Big Mike save result in one of the frontrunners leaving? Or, despite the increased odds of surprise, would two contestants familiar with the bottom of the tally be asked to pack their bags?

Of the two eliminations, one would be considered ‘obvious,’ while the other was considered a solid possibility (but not necessarily the most predictable). Dropped from the competition were Andrew Garcia, who received terrible reviews for his “Hound Dog,” and Katie Stevens, who received positive marks from all judges but Simon on “Baby, What You Want Me to Do” but had been a regular of the bottom three.

The seven remaining contestants return to the stage next week.
