Breaking: Conan O’Brien Joining TBS, Taking “Lopez” Timeslot

Just days after reports broke identifying a list of obstacles facing Conan O’Brien and FOX in their potential late night deal comes news that O’Brien will not be returning to network television.

Instead, come November, O’Brien will debut a show on cable network TBS. The show will air from 11PM-12AM Monday through Thursday, bumping current timeslot occupant “The George Lopez Show” to midnight.

Starting the show at 11PM–thirty five minutes before Jay Leno’s “Tonight Show” and David Letterman’s “Late Show”–was considered a mandatory strategic move for the comedian, who would enter the realm with the smallest of the three fanbases.

“In three months, I’ve gone from network television to Twitter to performing live in theaters, and now I’m headed to basic cable,” cracked O’Brien. “My plan is working perfectly.”

According to TBS, the network and O’Brien only began serious talks last week. But the talks evidently went well, and O’Brien will officially become a cable host next season.
