Report: FOX Expected to Cancel “24”

A late Tuesday report on Variety.com says that FOX is nearing a final decision to pull the plug on long-running action series “24.”

The show has suffered a decline in both viewership and critical acclaim, and it thus does not appear to have a future beyond the current eighth season. While no final decision has been made, all indications are that the show will be canceled.

Because principal figures like Kiefer Sutherland had only been officially on board through the duration of the season, the future of “24” had been up in the air even before buzz started to fade this year. With the show’s flame fizzing out, the end appears now nearly certain.

While “24” will inevitably be shopped to other networks, it is unclear that any would have interest in picking up a veteran series that comes with such a high production budget.

More likely to come beyond this season is the long-anticipated “24” feature film, which has been gaining some traction in recent months.

  1. Why? I love this show. They could do a lot with it if they were willing to take a few risks. Kiefer is great. I’ve become a fan since reading “Kiefer Sutherland: Living Dangerously”. You can find it on Amazon. It’s worth reading.

  2. I don’t see why cancel it. The show is STILL one of the most intense and exciting shows out there. There’s nothing wrong with this season. Has anyone seen all the crap that’s on TV now and people are complaining about 24? You gotta be kidding.

  3. First off I would like to say fantastic blog! I had a quick question that I’d like to ask if you do not mind. I was interested to know how you center yourself and clear your thoughts before writing. I have had a difficult time clearing my thoughts in getting my ideas out. I truly do enjoy writing but it just seems like the first 10 to 15 minutes are usually lost just trying to figure out how to begin. Any recommendations or tips? Appreciate it!
