Report: UFC Cuts Main-Event Fighter

Five Ounces of Pain reported Wednesday that Mark Coleman was cut by UFC just days after headlining the promotion’s UFC 109: Relentless card.

In the wake of UFC President Dana White’s claim that Coleman would probably never fight for the company again, the release seemed inevitable. It nonetheless remains intriguing to see such a rapid jump from the main-event slot to the chopping block.

The release also, at least in the near term, supports White’s claim that there was no immediate interest in booking Tito Ortiz vs. Mark Coleman. Intrigue in that match escalated following Coleman’s UFC 109 loss to Randy Couture–Ortiz made a comment from the crowd, prompting Coleman to cut a promo on the “douche bag.”
