Blake Lively Impresses in Auditions, Scores “Green Lantern” Lead

“Gossip Girl” star Blake Lively has booked the role of Carol Ferris in the anticipated upcoming film adaptation “Green Lantern

Lively stars opposite Ryan Reynolds (who plays the title character) in the upcoming film, which is aiming for a summer 2011 release.

Ferris is ultimately responsible for hiring Hal Jordan (Reynolds) as a test pilot; she serves as a love interest and later becomes the Green Lantern’s nemesis Star Sapphire, although it has not been clear if the latter development will have a presence in the 2011 film.

The casting of Lively, who is hardly one of the industry’s more acclaimed actresses, in the role has elicited some heat from “Lantern” fans, especially since the casting was intended to skew older (Jennifer Garner and Keri Russell were reportedly frontrunners).

THR nonetheless reports that Warner Bros. executives were very impressed with her audition. Her work in feature “The Town” also drew positive buzz from those making the decision.
