Jeff Hardy on Signing With TNA, Hulk Hogan, Jarrett Segment Fails

— Jeff Hardy was telling his TNA colleagues that scheduling played a factor in his decision to sign with the number two wrestling group.

According to reports, Hardy’s belief is that his lifestyle and current interest in the wrestling world is better served by TNA than with a taxing WWE schedule.

— The word going around is that the televised iMPACT! interaction between Hulk Hogan and Jeff Jarrett did not come across as intended. Due to a combination of some inside references and talking points getting cut from the promo and the mere fact that TNA is considered Jarrett’s “turf,” the feeling was that the segment actually made Hulk Hogan come off as carrying a heelish attitude–an account by Dave Meltzer, for instance, directly said that Hogan cut a “heel promo” on Jarrett. That was not the goal of the exchange.

A story on PWTorch.com says that the initial vision for the segment had Jarrett coming across as being more self-congratulatory and destructive, thereby prompting the fans to rally behind the Hulkster.

  1. Well thats interesting. The Hogan/Jeff segment, although it did seem Hogan was bashing Jeff a bit, it came out pretty well regardless.

  2. TNA on monday was awesome and it was historic. Every one who watched it live was part of history. I hope jeff hardy signs with tna and tna starts doing a live monday show every week!

  3. I can’t WAIT to see what the ratings are! It was like Tommy Dreamer said on Twitter…at 9ish PM, Bret & HBK on RAW while the nWo was in the ring on TN…Spike! Awesome night with TNA pulling money out their wallet to bring back all those familiar faces, especially Jeff Hardy & Ric Flair! My God, Flair & Sting haven’t been in the same organization since the last Nitro. I am STILL marking out from all the old faces.

  4. Wow…I watched the first hour and I was appauled with what I saw. You wanted real wrestling and here is what you got. A cage match that you could barely watch because you couldn’t get a camera inside with a no decision finish. A women’s match for a belt with a cheap 5 minute finish. And a ton of promos… first hour 2 matches lasting maybe 15 minutes and 45 minutes of promos. I flipped back and forth between the two shows and here’s what I saw on TNA. Failed WWF and I say WWF because the gimicks are that old and Old WCW NWO players… this is revolutionary? Give me a break, there is a reason why WCW failed and McMahon bought fired the trash: NWO, Eric Bishoff and Hulk Hogan. I loved Hogan back in the day but his time is over…History was watching Bret Hart return to Raw not watching Hogan struggle to get to the ring and old WCW story lines being rehashed over and over again…Nice job TNA, we’ll be seeing you all on the unemployment line in about a year.

  5. I agree with you, K DeLance. WWE has been offering crap for a long time and the weak RAW was to be expected. However, TNA offered “wrestling” by giving us a show filled with matches under four minutes, the Knockouts title match was under three minutes, a bait and switch on a Tag Title match with Beer Money and a Barbed Wire match with Abyss and Rhyno, and a lot of talking by has-beens.

TNA needs to get better and fast, fast, fast. This is their chance and, other than Angle vs. AJ, they blew it tremendously. They offered the same old crap we already get from WWE (i.e. nothing).

It is a dark time to be a wrestling fan.

  6. I flipped back and forth between the two and must give the upper hand to TNA, at least for one night. They did have a rough start as the cage match was barely visible, as stated earlier. Plus Homicide’s inability to escape the cage, which I’m assuming he was scripted to do so. Hopefully they’ll learn from it and scrap that particular cage style.

And I haven’t seen anyone else mention it, but in the middle of the 3-count at the finish of the Tara/ODB match, the screen briefly flipped to a recorded shot of the empty arena. Did that happen to everyone or was it just me?

I did find the Jarrett/Hogan interaction a bit awkward, and the Nasty Boys were a bit much. Were they even popular when they were relevant? I’m also not expecting Scott Hall to stick around (again), for the usual reasons.

But when you add the incredible Angle/Styles match, Ric Flair, Jeff Hardy, a suprisingly entertaining Waltman, and incredibly spank-worthy Knockouts, this show was tops for the evening.

That’s not to say I didn’t find the WWE program entertaining. How could you not enjoy seeing Bret? I guess my issue with that was that it was all too expected. They promised Bret and we got Bret, nothing more. Although it was a historic show under the circumstances, my impression was that WWE played it relatively safe and TNA took their best homerun swing. Let’s see how long it lasts.

My hope is for TNA to return to Monday nights in the near future. A successful TNA will lead to a better WWE.

  7. TNA had a good show. i dont care how old anyone is because it was entertaining and thats what matters. TNA had people on the edge of their seats all night and WWE had Bret at the beginning and end and that was it…advantage goes to TNA, at least for one night

  8. Having the DVR to watch both shows, I was thrilled and disappointed. It was great to see Brett Hart but he never really acted like a guest GM. No matches made by him and we really didn’t see much of him. Guess Vince finally got even, both mentally and physically. The writers need to improve on making it more invigorating.

As for TNA, it was great to see the old faces, but I agree that the cage match went poorly, the knockout championship was too short and I hated to see Eric Bishoff back in charge. He is rehashing all the old NWA crud. I think that TNA needs to realize that we have been drawn to watch the show with “wild” matches not same old same old. And finally, Hogan did come off as the jerk. Jarrett might have had tough times but he DID start the company and it has been a thrill to see it rise.

  9. I know that as a wrestling fans we are supposed to have short memories. But, often I feel that the writers become lazy by completely disregarding the not-so-distant past. Take Jerrett for example. When Jerrett returned from his long hiatus after losing his wife, it was in a management capacity. This endeared fans to see the person behind the persona of Double J. I enjoyed this because it made this entertainment industry seem, if only fleetingly, real. The story line also called for Angle to be a monster for bringing Jerrett’s children into the fray. (He also attacked Sting’s son months before the MEM storyline, which was too easily forgotten for the two to become cohorts on the basis of “respect”.) The point is that Angle received heat for bringing family into business. Then, as it often does, life imitated art albeit with the roles reversed. Because it has some “real” behind it I am supposed to forget about Angle supposedly doing the same thing to Jerrett. Because this ties with an earlier storyline, either use it as a contuation, or don’t use this rift at all.
The reason I went through this long diatribe is to say this. With all of the “band” coming back together, either make it completly real with all of the baggage and all, or don’t bring up part of the past to suit your purposes. The wrestling is better in TNA when they actually do it, but please don’t disrespect your fan base by forgetting that most of the fans have been fans of multiple organizations for a long time.
