WWE Announcers Didn’t Know the Wrestlers on RAW?

In a very interesting tidbit from RAW this week, the word is that the announcers–notably Jerry Lawler and Jesse Ventura–received graphical “cheat sheets” to help call matches on the show.

Reported in the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, the motivation behind the “cheat sheets” is as simple as it seems–Lawler and Ventura were not one hundred percent certain they would be able to identify the wrestlers on the show.

In Ventura’s case, he is not actively involved with the product and was thus not totally familiar with all of the wrestlers in the Battle Royal. In Lawler’s case, sources say he does not regularly watch SmackDown! and ECW and could thus not be certain he would be able to identify wrestlers from those brands on the fly.

The two received sheets that featured the wrestlers’ pictures and names to avoid mistakes during the live commentary.
