“Twilight: New Moon” Sets Midnight Record, Aims For “Dark Knight”

As was expected, “The Twilight Saga: New Moon” set the box office gross record for a midnight screening.

The early morning screening of the film, held in more than 3500 theatres, posted returns of $26.3 million, topping the figure set by “Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince” (which bowed on an additional 500 screens).

Undoubtedly set to top the $36 million opening day for the first “Twilight,” the studio is hoping the film can also top the all-time opening day record, presently held by “The Dark Knight” ($67.2 million).
