Rumor on UFC Champion Brock Lesnar’s Illness

November 4, 2009
By Brian Cantor

All indications are that Brock Lesnar will indeed be unable to defend his UFC Heavyweight Championship at UFC 108, and conversation has thus turned to the severity of his illness.

It was this debilitating illness that initially rendered Lesnar unable to maximize his gym time in pursuit of a November contest with Shane Carwin. That match was tentatively postponed to January’s UFC 108, and it appears another postponement is on the way.

Bloody Elbow acknowledges unconfirmed reports that Lesnar is suffering from mononucleosis. There had previously been speculation that Lesnar had been suffering from a flu strain–H1N1 obviously came up in that discussion.

As there have been numerous unsubstantiated (and some flat-out untrue) reports regarding Lesnar’s condition, readers should approach this rumor with caution until further proof is made available.
