Carrie Underwood’s “Play On” Tops Glee, Weezer, Foo Fighters (Album Sales)
Fourth “American Idol” winner Carrie Underwood continues her album sales dominance, although new release “Play On” will open softer than predecessor “Carnival Ride.”
Led off by single “Cowboy Casanova,” the latest Underwood album is tracking for first week sales in the 300-350,000 range, based on Hits Daily Double’s one-day sales extensions. Enough to give her a number one, the projected figure is nonetheless down from the more than 500,000 opening week units garnered by “Carnival Ride.”
Following the Underwood album among new entries is the first “Glee” soundtrack release. Despite the fact that most of its contents had already been on the iTunes marketplace as singles, the soundtrack is nonetheless tracking for a strong debut between 100,000 and 125,000.
Andrea Bocelli’s “My Christmas” will land in similar territory.
Next up is expected to be NOW 32, which is projected to garner sales just shy of 100,000. The resilient compilation series will thus spark enough purchases to top Weezer’s “Raditude,” which is pacing to land at about 60-65,000.
The Foo Fighters’ “Greatest Hits” record should land at about 35-40,000, while Say Anything’s new self-titled release will reach the 20-25,000 mark.
