WWE.com RAW report for October 12, 2009:
INDIANAPOLIS – United States Champion The Miz announces his match against Intercontinental Champion John Morrison at WWE Bragging Rights
He’s The Miz, and he’s … fighting SmackDown’s John Morrison at WWE Bragging Rights. The United States Champion gleefully announced the match, noting that his opponent is not only the Intercontinental Champion, but also Miz’s former tag team partner and “Dirt Sheet” co-host.
Kelly Kelly, Gail Kim & Maria Menounos def. Beth Phoenix, Alicia Fox & Rosa Mendes
If you happen to see Beth Phoenix, a word of advice: Do your level best not to anger her, she is likely to snap at any moment. First, she learned that she has been traded from Raw to SmackDown in the huge tri-branded Divas trade. Secondly, The Glamazon, along with her tag team partners Alicia Fox & Rosa Mendes suffered a humiliating defeat at the hands of Kelly Kelly, Gail Kim & Raw special correspondent and Access Hollywood host Maria Menounos.
Kofi Kingston def. Evan Bourne to qualify for Team Raw
He may have let the United States Championship slip from his grasp last week, but Kofi Kingston has proved nothing if not resilient. The dreadlocked Superstar demonstrated just how tough he can be by defeating Evan Bourne to secure his spot on Team Raw at WWE Bragging Rights.
Jack Swagger def. MVP to qualify for Team Raw
After months of bad blood flowing between Jack Swagger and MVP, the cultures clashed in a WWE Bragging Rights Qualifying Match. This time, “The All-American American” emerged victorious and qualified for Team Raw.
Cody Rhodes def. Ted DiBiase and John Cena in a Triple Threat WWE Bragging Rights Qualifying Match; Rhodes & DiBiase vs. Cena & Orton later in the evening
Despite having to face off against his trusted partner, Cody Rhodes nonetheless put aside his loyalties in order to seize a spot on Team Raw for WWE Bragging Rights. The young Rhodes even pinned his Legacy partner Ted DiBiase, as the third man in the Triple Threat Match, John Cena, found himself distracted by his WWE Bragging Rights opponent, WWE Champion Randy Orton.
After the contentious bout, DiBiase appeared so irate that he nearly exchanged blows with his partner. That was hardly the only surprise. Special guest host Nancy O’Dell shocked the foursome when she announced a Tag Team Match for later in the evening: Rhodes & DiBiase would face Cena and his partner, Randy Orton!
Melina def. Divas Champion Jillian Hall
Moments after securing the Divas Championship from Mickie James, Jillian Hall was forced to defend the title against Melina thanks to Raw’s special guest host Nancy O’Dell initiating a huge tri-brand Divas trade. The former SmackDown Diva made quick work of Jillian on her way to netting the golden butterfly.
Jillian def. Divas Champion Mickie James; tri-branded Divas trade announced
The good news for Jillian: In a jaw-plunging upset, the tone-deaf Diva managed to unseat Mickie James to capture the Divas Championship.
The bad news: Her celebration was cut short by Raw’s special guest host Nancy O’Dell, who informed Jillian that she had called the General Managers of SmackDown and ECW, Theodore Long and Tiffany respectively and struck a deal for a huge Divas trade. Therefore, Jillian would be forced to defend her newly acquired title against Raw’s latest acquisition, Melina.
Cody Rhodes vs. Ted DiBiase vs. John Cena in a Triple Threat WWE Bragging Rights Qualifying Match
Triple H sure knows how to rub it in. Eight days after punishing his Hell in a Cell opponents, The Legacy, the DX destroyer pitted Cody Rhodes and Ted DiBiase against one another in a Triple Threat WWE Bragging Rights Qualifying Match to determine who will join Team Raw. Oh, and the third Superstar in the ring? None other than John Cena.
Big Show def. Chris Jericho to qualify for Team Raw
Big Show proved that he is indeed his own man when he broke from his Unified Tag Team Champion partner, Chris Jericho. The two had quarreled earlier about who was more important to the team when Triple H arranged a match between the two. The outcome would determine whether or not The World’s Largest Athlete would qualify to become a member of Team Raw at WWE Bragging Rights. Show proved he has what it takes by notching the victory over his petulant partner.
Triple H arranged Big Show vs. Chris Jericho
Chris Jericho has never been shy about exercising his right to free speech. Unfortunately for the WWE Universe, there’s such a thing as too much exercise. As the self-important Superstar, and captain of the SmackDown team for the upcoming WWE Bragging Rights pay-per-view, geared up to convince the audience of the superiority of his brand, Raw’s special guest host Nancy O’Dell of Access Hollywood pulled the plug, instead giving the floor over to Raw’s team captains for WWE Bragging Rights, D-Generation X. Only one problem: a Shawn Michaels stand-in approached the ring with Triple H since the real Michaels was busy at home nursing a sick daughter.
HBK’s partner Triple H phoned him and wished his daughter a speedy recovery before Jericho barged in, this time with help from his Unified Tag Team Champion partner, Big Show. The confrontation took an unexpected turn when Jericho & Show began bickering about who had been carrying their team. Before the dust settled, Show told Jericho that instead of fighting for the SmackDown team, he would battle for Raw at WWE Bragging Rights. The Game, however, had other ideas. Triple H notified Show that he would have to earn his way on the Raw team by fighting an opponent of The Game’s choosing: Chris Jericho!
