– CBS offered a thirteen episode renewal to Canadian series “Flashpoint” Monday, booking the drama for a return later this season. The show had already received a third season order from Canada’s CTV; the CBS renewal assures the imported series will continue on American television.

– EW reports that the first major “Desperate Housewives” cliffhanger this season will involve a plane crashing in the neighborhood. Though it will “affect everyone’s lives,” according to creator Marc Cherry, none of the principal housewives will die as part of the storyline. Some minor characters, however, might be more directly involved.

– The “Idol Gives Back” charity special has been confirmed for a return to “American Idol” this season. After airing for two consecutive seasons and raising more than $140 million, it took a year off for the most recent eighth season.
