“Two and a Half Men” Star Upsets in Emmy For Best Supporting Actor

With Neil Patrick Harris hosting the 61st Annual Primetime Emmy Awards and multiple-time winner Jeremy Piven out of the race, the assumption was that the “How I Met Your Mother” star would finally take home a Best Supporting Actor Emmy in the comedy field.

That assumption proved false. “Two and a Half Men” star Jon Cryer, who has been nominated for the last several years but was never viewed as a serious contender, took home the prize for his work on television’s highest-rated sitcom.

Besides Cryer and Harris, other nominees included Kevin Dillon (“Entourage”), Rainn Wilson (“The Office”), Tracy Morgan (“30 Rock”) and Jack MacBrayer (“30 Rock”).

— Also awarded: Matt Hubbard for Comedy Writing on “30 Rock.”
