Joining colleague Gregory Helms in discussing the incident, which saw Kanye West interrupt Taylor Swift’s Best Female Video acceptance speech to declare Beyonce the more deserving nominee, WWE Unified Tag Champion Chris Jericho criticized West for the incident.
“Kanye West takes himself way too seriously,” wrote Jericho in a Twitter update. “You think Michael, Prince or Jay-Z would ever pull that sh*t?? Get over yourself, junior.”
Early Monday morning, Helms condemned West’s behavior as “likely racist,” while celebrities like Katy Perry went to Twitter to criticize West’s outburst and support Swift.

I am fortunate to live in a city that doesn’t seem to have as many race issues as America, so stuff will hit an American in a way that it does not hit me. That being said, and since race is being thrown about here I will say I am white. I am finding responses to Kanye interesting. He seemed charged by alcohol to me, and probably justified what he did in his mind by making it a race issue. Can’t say it surprised me, he is obviously a narcissist and we have been generously feeding his thinking and living habits. What surprises and saddens me a bit more is here, where white people either use it to label his entire race, or black people feel he embarrassed his entire race. Truth is he is a very spoiled rawk star with a distorted view of himself, and that is who he embarrassed. Himself. If someone who is not black lets this effect their opinion of black people, they still need to give their head a shake and become conscious. I have friends of many races, and many of them, including myself, have done stupid things while drunk, had issues and bones to pick we needed to heal from that surface inappropriately. Being a drunken idiot is not a race issue. I don’t need to judge entire races to protect myself, but I will be aware of a social and economic demographics before I decide to walk alone in at neighbourhood at night. That is not being racist, the poor demographic neighbourhood in my city is white, I am simply acknowledging it and acting accordingly. I don’t put all white people in a category as dangerous, but I know the hoods to beware of. In an another city their may be an area with a different race to be aware and I will find out if I am traveling about the area to protect myself. Economics will dictate my safety level, not race. There have been some comments regarding whose video was better and who they thought deserved the award, and everyone is entitled to their own opinions. I personally thought Taylor’s video was better than Beyonce’s. To me, Taylor’s video was the definition of a music video. It told a story. The directors shot a variety of scenes to help tell the story of the song. It had action. She interacted with other people in the video. All Beyonce did in her video was danced with 2 other dancers…the entire video. No scene changes, no story-telling, no interaction with other characters of the video I am in no way disrespecting Beyonce…I have always been a major fan of hers since she debuted with Destiny’s Child. But in this instance, I like Taylor’s video better than hers. On a further note, I actually like Kelly Clarkson’s video better than Taylor’s. I would have preferred for Kelly to win, although Kanye would have just stolen her spotlight as well.
