Director Todd Phillips became the talk of the comedy world with his hugely successful “The Hangover,” and with two anticipated projects in the works, he looks to remain at the forefront of the genre.

Variety notes that Phillips will begin work on “Due Date” this fall. Aimed for a June 2010 release, “Date” stars “Hangover” breakout Zach Galifianakis as an unlikely travel companion to an expectant father as the two race across the country to make it home in time for the birth.

He then returns to the “Hangover” universe; Phillips will direct the sequel, which features all the leads reprising their roles, in the fall of 2010.

“The Hangover 2″ releases on Memorial Day weekend in 2011.

On track to reach $240 million domestically according to industry sources, “The Hangover” is poised to unseat “Beverly Hills Cop” ($234 million) as the highest-grossing R-rated comedy of all-time.
