UFC’s Two Heavyweight Standouts To Fight?

It seems that UFC fans will finally have an answer to the question of who represents the future of the heavyweight division. The industry’s two breakout heavyweight stars are set to do battle this fall.

Though the bout has not been finalized, confidence exists that undefeated heavyweights Shane Carwin and Cain Velasquez will lock horns at UFC 104 in October.

Set for October 24, the event takes place in the Staples Center.

Carwin and Velasquez have received enormous hype since debuting in the UFC; Carwin last defeated former title contender Gabriel Gonzaga with a fast TKO, while Velasquez dominated Cheick Kongo en route to a unanimous decision victory at UFC 99.

Velasquez has one more win in the Octagon (four), but at 11-0 on his career, Carwin has earned victory in five more mixed martial arts fights.

The bout’s specific title implications were unclear at press time, but the only fighter the Carwin-Velasquez winner would presumably have to follow in scoring a title shot is the Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira vs. Randy Couture winner.
