Long-rumored but never officially confirmed, “Mission: Impossible IV” is finally on track for a theatrical release.

The fourth installment in the series, set to be produced by Tom Cruise and JJ Abrams, will bow in 2011, presumably in the summer, according to Variety.

“M:I IV” marks yet another major action sequel slated for Paramount’s future schedule–other franchises continuing into the next few years are “Star Trek” and “Transformers,” for which second and third films, respectively, will be produced.

With very solid reviews for an action sequel, the third “Mission: Impossible” grossed $397.9 worldwide in 2006.
