Update: “Hangover” Tops “Up” for the Weekend

In a rare turn of events, the weekend box office estimates gave the crown to the wrong film. Actual data for the past three days reveals that R-rated comedy “The Hangover” actually topped “Up” to win the weekend.

“The Hangover” earned $45 million from its 3269 screens, enough to top the $44.3 million for “Up.” It ranks as the third best R-rated comedy opening of all time, behind only “Sex and the City” and “American Pie 2.”

“Land of the Lost” will not receive the same Sunday spike that helped “Hangover” top the weekend. Industry sources say it might even end up earning less than its estimated $19.5 million tally.
