“Heroes” Expected to Return Next Season

NBC Entertainment president Angela Bromstad told The Hollywood Reporter that “Heroes” is very likely to receive a fourth season.

Though NBC has not officially renewed the series, Bromstad said that the show is not considered a “bubble” series and that an eighteen to twenty episode order will be issued for next season.

The series, which took over some of “Lost”‘s buzz and “24”‘s viewers in its highly acclaimed first season, began a downward spiral last year. With its storyline cut short by the writers’ strike, the show returned for a third season this fall to poor reviews and a smaller audience. Its reboot this winter, a stripped down “volume four” that features a more straightforward “Heroes vs. Hunter” storyline, has not at all spiked the ratings.

Nonetheless, NBC does not view the ratings as a problem. A big advantage for “Heroes”‘ future is its massive global appeal.

“Every single place you go has heard about ‘Heroes’ — whether you’re in China or Japan or Russia,” said Bromstad. “And to me, that is global content.”
