Another “Who Wants to be a Millionaire?” Return Planned

The primetime version of ABC’s “Who Wants to be a Millionaire?” will return for a tenth anniversary celebration this summer.

The Regis Philbin-hosted game show, which took the nation by storm in 1999, will air for eleven nights in August. Airings are scheduled for Sunday through Thursday at 8PM, with the show opening on August 9 and ending on August 23.

Following its succesful launch as a primetime special, “Millionaire” became the flagship show on ABC’s primetime lineup, spawning a number of similar game shows, including “Greed” and “The Weakest Link,” in the process. Though its television dominance only lasted a few years, it has come back for limited engagements on ABC. Meredith Vieira has also hosted a syndicated version on daytime television since 2002.
